Colorado Dreaming: Things I Did During My Weekend Trip

A few months ago, I enjoyed a much needed isolated trip to Colorado. I wasn’t necessarily isolated from people but I isolated myself from my everyday life back home. It’s crazy how much we get caught up in the day to day life that we forget what peace and quiet feels like. Peace and quiet is what I got on this trip and I already can’t wait to go back. I can’t lie, the drive was EXTREMELY boring. Nothing but sorghum and corn fields. Once I finally made it to the Colorado border I decided to make a split decision and drive through Colorado Springs to see Garden of the Gods again.

My original reasoning for going to Colorado was to see the Rocky Mountain National Forest. Unfortunately due to poor planning on my part, I never got to do that. I planned an entire day of what I was going to do in the park, only for my dreams to be crushed. I drove to Denver and once I was in Denver I drove an additional hour to Estes Park. It was a beautiful drive up the mountains. Once I got to Rocky Mountain National Forest there were extremely long lines and I found out that they were only letting people in who made a reservation online.

I’m not sure if the reservations were due to covid or because of the recent forest fires. Either way, it was such a disappointment. Nevertheless I was able to make some last minute stops and changes that made the trip worth while.

1. Garden of the Gods

I walked through Garden of the Gods to stretch my legs a little and it was such a perfect view. To be honest, it was more crowded than I’ve ever seen it and I’m pretty sure it was because of covid. I didn’t stay for very long because of the crowd but I was still happy that I was able to see it again.

2. Adventure Miniature Golf

Adventure Miniature Golf was SO FUN! There were about 4 different courses and they were all 18 holes. It was extremely affordable, I wish I could’ve tried all of their courses.

3. Lake Estes Trail

When my Rocky Mountain National Park plans changed, I ended up going to Lake Estes Trail instead of the trail I originally planned. It was a very beautiful view of the mountains and the trail is about a 3.8 mile loop. There were also a ton of elk walking around which was cool to see!

4. Burgers and Gyros

Burgers and Gyros was the perfect place to stop and get some food on my adventure. I tried an elk burger, their hotdog, fries and a strawberry shake. It was all so good, I already can’t wait to go back again. I had never had elk before until I tried that burger and surprisingly I liked it!

5. Chef Zorbas

Last but not least, ZORBAS! Stopped here in Denver for a quick breakfast and it was the best decision ever! They also serve breakfast all day. I got the Unusual Skillet Breakfast, Hummus and Pita bread and toast.

Even though my plans definitely did not turn out the way I planned, I still managed to visit some beautiful and fun places!
